Arizona Baseball Legacy & Experience

Celebrating Arizona baseball

Cam is the man

Congratulations to Saguaro High School’s Cam Caminiti. He was taken No. 24 overall Sunday by the Atlanta Braves in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.

He was the first high school left-handed pitcher selected in the draft and the youngest player taken in the first round at 17-years old. He was the only Arizona native taken in the first round of the draft.

Last spring Caminiti pitched Saguaro to the 4A state baseball championship after defeating Tucson’s Canyon del Oro at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

It capped a remarkable season in which Caminiti went 9-0 with a 0.93 ERA, striking out 119 and walking 14 in 52.2 innings. Caminiti also hit .493 with 34 hits, 28 RBIs, four doubles, five triples and three home runs.

Baseball excellence runs in the family. His cousin, the late Ken Caminiti, was the National League MVP as a third baseman with the San Diego Padres in 1996.
