Arizona Baseball Legacy & Experience

Celebrating Arizona baseball

We’re open! Come visit the Old Town Baseball Experience @ Frasher’s Tavern

The Arizona Baseball Legacy and Experience is pleased to announce the opening of a unique baseball gathering place and museum.

The Old Town Baseball Experience @ Frasher’s Tavern is more than terrific history and memorabilia – it’s a meeting place for those who love the sport and wish to celebrate its rich Arizona legacy.

Admission to the museum is free. Doors open at 4 p.m. most days. Look for special hours during spring training games at nearby Scottsdale Stadium.

Located on the footprint of old Scottsdale High School, where Hall-of-Fame pitcher Jim Palmer played, Frasher’s Tavern is woven into Old Town Scottsdale’s historic tapestry. The museum fits into the tradition of such American landmarks as New York’s Fraunces Tavern and San Francisco’s Vesuvio Café/City Lights Bookstore and continues the legacy of local baseball hotspots like the Pink Pony and Don and Charlie’s.

As part of this project, the nonprofit Arizona Baseball Legacy and Experience (ABLE) will operate a museum inside the restaurant focused on Arizona baseball with an emphasis on Scottsdale’s diverse baseball history and heritage.

The museum will also host baseball presentations and group gatherings during the year and feature a bookstore focused on works about America’s Pastime.

“Baseball is a unique part of Arizona and Scottsdale and the Old Town Baseball Experience celebrates that relationship,” said Mike Phillips, board president of ABLE. “It will be a place to enjoy the sport with others, learn about the sport and honor the sport.”

Frasher’s Tavern has been a Scottsdale landmark since 1999. Owner George Frasher has amassed a large baseball memorabilia collection and his partnership with ABLE will expand that experience to make it a must-see attraction for even casual fans.

“Frashers is honored to carry on the baseball traditions of Old Town Scottsdale and such great places of the past like the Pink Pony and Don and Charlies,” said owner George Frasher. “We are excited about teaming up with ABLE and making Frashers a gathering place for the baseball community and fans of our National Pastime.”

The Old Town Baseball Experience will feature displays on the early history of Arizona baseball, including the infamous “Outlaw” leagues, the origins of spring training, the modern Cactus League and Scottsdale’s outstanding tradition of high school baseball.

You know the Old Town Baseball Experience is special as soon as you walk in the door. There to greet you is the home plate from original Scottsdale Stadium installed in 1956. Such greats as Brooks Robinson, Ted Williams, Ernie Banks and Barry Bonds have stood at the plate fine-tuning their craft for their record-setting MLB seasons and careers.
