Arizona Baseball Legacy & Experience

Celebrating Arizona baseball

Exhibits in Scottsdale a grand slam

What a week!

We held three receptions recently for our ongoing baseball exhibit “Legends, All Stars and Rogues” at the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum in Scottsdale.

Thanks to the hundreds of folks who attended the events or have had a chance to view the exhibit, which celebrates the evolution of spring training in Scottsdale and the five MLB teams that have trained in the city.

Also, thanks to the Scottsdale Historical Society and the city of Scottsdale for their hard work in making the receptions a reality.

Finally, a big “high five” to San Francisco Chronicle sportswriter John Shea. He was the featured speaker at each reception and is the author of five baseball books, including the New York Times bestseller with Willie Mays “24: Life Stories and Lessons from the Say Hey Kid” and Rickey Henderson’s autobiography, “Off Base: Confessions of a Thief.

John shared wonderful insights and anecdotes about both Mays and Henderson, who are among those highlighted in the museum’s exhibit.

The exhibit is open through April and takes visitors on a whimsical and thought-provoking journey through more than six decades of Scottsdale Stadium and the spring training teams that have called it home.

The museum’s hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
