Arizona Baseball Legacy & Experience

Celebrating Arizona baseball

You’re invited to March receptions celebrating Scottsdale spring training

Baseball and history fans are invited to a pair of receptions in March to celebrate spring training and Scottsdale’s unique relationship to the National Pastime.

The receptions commemorate the latest exhibit produced by Arizona Baseball Legacy and Experience now open at Scottsdale’s Little Red Schoolhouse Museum.

Two receptions are planned at the museum, located at 7333 E. Scottsdale Mall, just east of the intersection of Brown Avenue and Main Street in Old Town Scottsdale. Both are free and open to the public: 1 p.m. March 7 and 10 a.m. March 13.

Featured speaker at both events will be San Francisco Chronicle sportswriter John Shea. He is the author of five baseball books, including the New York Times bestseller with Willie Mays “24: Life Stories and Lessons from the Say Hey Kid” and Rickey Henderson’s autobiography, “Off Base: Confessions of a Thief.”

Both Mays and Henderson are among those highlighted in the museum’s exhibit, entitled “Legends, All Stars and Rogues — The Rich Legacy of Scottsdale Spring Training.”

The exhibit is open through April and takes visitors on a whimsical and thought-provoking journey through more than six decades of Scottsdale Stadium and the spring training teams that have called it home.

In total, five Major League franchises have trained in Scottsdale, featuring some of the most memorable teams, players and characters to ever grace the game.

The museum’s hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
