Schedule released for upcoming baseball exhibit at Scottsdale Stadium

Baseball history combines with heroism and mystery at a new exhibit opening Oct. 3 at Scottsdale Stadium.

Scottsdale Scorpion ticket holders get in free during Fall League games and the exhibit is free to the public on selected other days. The complete schedule is below.

The exhibit honors Cactus League veterans like Bob Feller, Ernie Banks, Willie Mays and Ted Williams who became Hall of Famers, but also interrupted their careers to serve in the military. Rare memorabilia and authentic period uniforms will help tell their stories.    

Another part of the exhibit celebrates the 75^th anniversary of the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” – Bobby Thomson’s stunning home run in the bottom of the ninth to win the 1951 National League pennant for the New York Giants over cross-town rival Brooklyn.    

One of the featured items is a baseball claimed by its owner to be the one Thomson hit to win that game. It’s back on display after more than two decades locked in a safe. The exhibit will present never-before-seen evidence to support the home run claim and evidence critics say refutes it. Visitors will get a chance to weigh in on the debate while viewing what may be the most iconic baseball in history.     

The Scottsdale Stadium exhibit is produced by the nonprofit group Arizona Baseball Legacy and Experience and sponsored by the City of Scottsdale.
